Meet Jenna Johnson British Sign Language Interpreter
POSTED ON TUESDAY 26 SEPTEMBER
What does it mean to you to be interpreting at Jabberwocky Market?
It is an honour to be a part of Jabberwocky Market, with their vision to display top class theatre in a fabulous town.
It is great to be interpreting ‘The Castle Builder’ as part of pop up theatre in Darlington. I am very passionate about theatre and the arts, thus interpreting such a creative and inspiring piece of theatre is so exciting.
Is interpreting a theatre show different from interpreting at other events?
Yes, with theatre, it takes weeks of preparing, getting to know the characters, their intentions and motives. It is also really important to understand the meaning of the dialogue to ensure that it is conveyed clearly in BSL.
What are you looking forward to at the Jabberwocky Market?
Being involved in a creative piece of theatre is exciting, it is great to be a part of it and allow theatre to be accessible.
What would you like us to know about you?
I like Game of Thrones, honest people, interior design, drinking tea and Disney, actually I love Disney I’m a bit of a fan girl.
What is your favourite word?
In English- Jelly.
In British Sign Language- I love the signs- cake or chocolate- they’re good signs to know don’t you think?
Least favourite word?
I haven’t really thought about that before- I’m a really positive person so I always try to look on the bright side 🙂
