It’s starting to feel like a festival is about to happen in Darlington. This weekend we had a couple of days of glorious sunshine up at Lingfield Point for the Festival of Thrift. Last Thursday we opened the Jabberwocky Market Hub in the Covered Market to a fanfare of performances from music students from Hummersknott and QE Sixth Form, and visits from artists featured in the main programme.
The newspapers and radio have really started to sit up and take notice. It is as exciting as the night before Disneyland on that advert. Here’s the man behind Festival of Thrift (amongst others), Wayne Hemingway, visiting our stall!
So, just a brief summary of some of the fantastic things that have been happening.
First La Di Da magazine launched. They are sponsoring our Premier Ticket packages, and in return George from The Letter Room went along to the launch in role as a paparazzo. He’s here admiring this Vanquish – another honoured guest at the party.
Students from Hummersknott Academy and from Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form performed songs from the shows and the charts to herald our grand opening.
Funders, volunteers, main programme performers, organisers and the press joined the regular market stall holders in a really fun day.
Then over this last weekend, in the blazing September sunshine, literally hundreds of people came to chat to us about the festival and the shows. They can’t all come along – Thrift attracted visitors from right across the country – but it was a fantastic opportunity for Caroline, Gary and Jenny to talk more about the wonderful shows and artists, and meet some wonderful people.
We are looking forward with great excitment for the next few days until launch in T- 9 days!!!!!
